If your kids are anything like mine, they love to celebrate every holiday on the calendar. Since I was 18, I always loved planning themed lunches and dinners for my friends to enjoy. When I had my daughter, tradition carried on and I would make mini goody baskets filled with yummy snacks and crafts. Fast forward to having my son, they both look forward to our mini themed celebrations.
I usually make a themed basket for the beginning of each season filled with a cozy blanket, a good book and yummy snacks for my kids to enjoy. For holidays, I get themed treats + crafts and we have a mini celebration. My kids always look forward to these small “parties” and we even have a countdown in our kitchen chalkboard.
Depending on the season a holiday lands, we’ll either have an inside celebration or have a picnic in our backyard. I usually make chicken salad sandwiches or fatayer and always have a charcuterie board for them to graze. We’ll either have hot cocoa or lemonade, depending if it’s winter or summer, along with any treats I set out.
This Valentine’s Day we’re planning a picnic outside but since Georgia weather is so unpredictable, we may have to move the celebration inside. Luckily, this set up can work anywhere.
If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kids that won’t break the bank and will keep ’em busy, you’ve come to the right place! Here’s a fun picnic idea with quick set up and easy clean up.
the crafts

My kids love anything crafty and I found some fun valentines crafts by Mondo Llama at $5-$10/each. I was able to snag one wood garland kit in store but the other garland kit was only available for shipping. This embroidery kit will be a hit for my 13 year old since she’s getting into sewing and has been trying to get her hands on everything in my craft room to practice on. If you have a younger child whom needles is a no go, this bracelet making kit is always a fun craft idea. For even younger kids, this create your own paper tube character is sure to bring on some giggles. These all seem to be selling out quick so make sure you grab yours today!
This past Christmas we missed out on gingerbread cookies because I waited too long (bad mama) and they sold out. I was so excited when I saw this valentine’s house kit so that we can continue our house wars that I always lose. They also have a make your own cookie kit!
our valentine’s picnic picks

These are some of my fave items that I’ll be using for our valentine’s picnic along with our top craft picks.
The pink Dash heart waffle maker is a perfect extra touch for a themed snack and is only $12.99. I only own one other Dash product but the reviews are always raving about these waffle makers. They also have a hot pink style with a different valentines design. You can’t beat that price!
It’s not everyday you use pink plates (or maybe you do – go you!) so I’m not looking to spend too many bucks on some. These adorable pink plates are from Target and are only .75 cents each. YES, you read that right! The matching tumblers also available for the same price. These are the perfect pink for a creative valentine’s tablescape!
The rest of the items are things I already own or have recently bought (keep an eye out for my next post) but you can click the pic above to easily view direct links to each item. You do NOT need it all to create this fun picnic. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this simple and fun valentine’s picnic idea that will have your kids talking about for days. We’re counting down the days until our picnic and I’ll be sharing pics on my Instagram. Tag me on there @ourbrickcolonial so I can see what you’ve created!
